Privacy Policy

Overview

WonderSound ("we", "us") operates the WonderSound website and soundscape application. This policy explains what information we handle, why, and the choices you have. You can listen without an account, and we collect only what the feature in front of you needs.

What we store on your device

• Playback and mixer preferences — sound levels, mute state, global volume, and custom voice selections stored in your browser's local storage.
• Session state — the location you were playing and your map view, kept for the current browser session so you can return without losing your place.
• Exploration meter cookie — if you listen without signing in, a cookie (ws_free_views) records which location you've explored, so we can apply the one-location free limit without asking you to sign up.
• Theme and display settings — stored locally to keep the interface consistent.

Accounts

Accounts are optional and unlock a larger free tier (5 locations). When you create one we store your name, email address, and — if you sign in with Google or X — the profile identifier and avatar those providers share with us. We also keep session records so you stay signed in, and a per-location exploration log that enforces the free tier. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. You can sign out at any time; account deletion is available on request (see Contact).

Payments and subscriptions

WonderSound Unlimited ($4.99/month, 3-day free trial, cancel anytime) is sold through Waffo Pancake, our merchant of record. Card and payment details are entered on Waffo's hosted checkout and processed by Waffo's payment providers — they never pass through our servers. When a payment succeeds, Waffo sends us a signed notification containing your order id, the amount, and the email used at checkout; we store that record to prove your subscription and to link it to your account. Invoices, refunds, and payment disputes are handled by Waffo Pancake.

Analytics

We use two analytics services to understand how the app is used: Microsoft Clarity (session recordings and heatmaps) and Google Analytics 4 (usage events). Both may set cookies and collect device and usage information such as pages viewed, interactions, approximate location derived from IP address, and browser/ device characteristics. IP addresses are anonymized/truncated where the services support it. You can block both with standard browser settings or extensions, and opt out of Google Analytics with Google's official browser add-on.

Email

If you register with email and password, we send a verification message (and password-reset messages on request) through our email provider, Resend. We do not send marketing email. If you signed up with Google or X, no email is sent.

Third-party services

• Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, database connectivity (Hyperdrive), and session storage.
• Waffo Pancake — merchant of record for subscriptions (payments, invoices, refunds).
• Microsoft Clarity / Google Analytics 4 — product analytics (see Analytics above).
• Resend — transactional email delivery.
• Map and media providers — map tiles, audio streams, cover imagery, and web fonts (Google Fonts) required to render and play the app.

What we don't do

We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not run advertising networks. We share data with the providers listed above only as needed to operate the Service.

Your choices

• Listen without an account — nothing identifying is collected beyond the metering cookie.
• Delete the metering cookie or browse in a private window to reset the anonymous free tier.
• Block analytics via browser settings, extensions, or Google's opt-out add-on.
• Request account deletion or a copy of your data via the Contact page.
